Higher Diploma in General Nursing (Enrolled Nurses)

Admission to this programme is suspended for the 2017-2018 academic year.

 

The need for nursing care in various institutions such as elder care, home care, rehabilitation centres and special needs areas continues to rise in the past few years. There is a large demand to have frontline care workers in serving older adults in the next few decades due to the aging population and the corresponding government policy on elder care. Enrolled nurses who are trained to provide direct patient and client care can offer support to this societal need.

Programme Features

Students who have successful completion of this programme is eligible to obtain professional licence and registration with nursing council of Hong Kong to practice as an Enrolled Nurse.

The programme adopts interactive, case-based and problem-based learning teaching and training components in Clinical Nursing subjects to enhance student-directed learning.

Nearly half of the specialism courses provide e-learning activities to stimulate portable mobile learning on evidence-based scenarios and self-test exercise.

Opportunities for Further Studies

Some students may further their study locally or abroad and choose to study conversion programme to Registered Nurse or Bachelor of Nursing honors degree programme.

Career Prospects

Graduates may work either full time or part time as Enrolled nurses in both private or public hospitals. Our graduates may also serve at community settings where there is much demand for nurses such as rehabilitation centres, day hospital or nursing home for the elderly clients.

Special Entrance Requirements

Applicants are also required to have obtained Level 2 or above in HKDSE Mathematics (Core) and one science subject; or have a pass in HKCEE Mathematics and one science subject, or equivalent. Applicants should have reached the age of 18 years on 1 September 2017^.

 

^ As stipulated in the Nurses Registration Ordinance (NRO), no person shall be qualified to be enrolled under the NRO unless she or he has satisfied the Council that she or he attained the age of 20 years.

The programme is a joint venture of the HKU SPACE Community College and Hong Kong Adventist Hospitals for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 intakes.
