Two years ago, my disappointing DSE result made me feel depressed and I wanted to escape from the bad feeling. This programme has transformed me. At the beginning of my study of HDLIM, I was still not gaining outstanding academic results. However, as time went by, the content of the course really caught my interest and made me gradually forgot my poor performance in the public exam. I highly recommend this programme since it provides professional knowledge in an interesting way that can facilitate achievement in study. Different internships can also equip us to face the challenges of the workplace.

This programme brings students new perspectives on library and information management. The interactive learning environment with site visits and professional placements help students put theories into practice. The information literacy skills and knowledge on library operations and management I have acquired in this programme provided me with a positive foundation for my further study and future career in this field. In addition, I gained practical skills on-site after working in the Pinsent Masons, Victoria Shanghai Academy, ISF Academy and Hong Kong Shue Yan University as an intern. The internship programme provided me opportunities to observe how information professionals manage the library at different perspectives – from end processing to handling library management systems and making collection development decisions.

Two years ago, I was a local S.6 student who worries about my public examination results and my career prospects. Unfortunately, I was not able to get into university at that time. Life was fearful. “Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free.” where this course gives me another hope to get back into university, which set me free. In these two years, this course turned me into a better student and employee in the information industry. Besides, this course also provides us with internships, which put our professional knowledge gained in the lecture into practice.

What you could achieve in this programme is inconceivable! To a large extent, this programme creates a platform for us to equip ourselves well before working in this competitive society. Apart from lectures, site visits to different kinds of libraries and information centres are arranged, giving us chances to explore more about the inner side of library work. Feedback from immediate supervisors during work placement is sincerely valuable for us to review our weakness in specific areas.

Studying Library and Information Management was great fun. The lessons were highly interesting and practical. I got the chance to work in some famous institutions, visited different libraries, and went to various meetings, conferences, exhibitions and presentations. I achieved something I’d never thought I could. Last August, I participated in the Heleni Linton Bursary and I was so glad that my proposal and interview convinced the judges. This is the biggest accomplishment I've ever achieved and this could be yours.
