Programme Code: AD 105 Online Application 3416 6338 2305 5315

• BA in Language and Communication  Application Code

Programme Aims & Features

The programme features 6 study themes. Upon completion of the first year curriculum, students will specialize in one of the four themes in the second year of their study (except Japanese Studies and Korean Studies themes), and, at the same time, select a combination of courses offered by the other themes*.

Bilingual Communication

This theme aims to provide a solid foundation in bilingual studies (Chinese-English). Through a number of specialized courses, students will not only improve their language skills but will also learn about the practical use of both languages, including translation, linguistics, Chinese lexicology and syntax.

Chinese Language, Literature & Culture

As interaction with Mainland China has become increasingly frequent, Hong Kong faces an unprecedented demand for people well conversant with the linguistic, literary and cultural traditions of China to work in different sectors. This theme offers specialist training in classical and modern Chinese language, literature and culture, so as to equip students with the much-needed proficiency in Chinese to cope with the requirements of further studies and work.

English Studies

This theme provides students with the opportunity to strengthen their English language skills and develop their lifelong learning capabilities through a combination of theoretical and practical studies. Students will also further develop their proficiency in both spoken and written English.

This theme aims to nurture students’ critical, creative and cognitive abilities through the study of aesthetics, comparative literature, philosophy, and the making of a globalising world. It provides a solid foundation for developing students’ analytical and communication skills.

*Except Japanese Studies Theme and Korean Studies Theme.
